1951 Genji film image source

I know it's been more than a decade, but is there any chance you could provide an approximate time in the film that this screenshot is taken from? I tried to locate it on one of the YouTube uploads just now, but couldn't seem to find it.
If it was photographed separately as a promotional image, then it probably has a separate copyright, which may or may not still apply...

- Even if it was a promotional photo, it would be public domain according to article 23 of the 1899 Copyright Act of Japan and Article 2 of Supplemental Provisions of Copyright Act of 1970. This is because this photo was published before January 1st 1957. FYI, the photo does not claim to be a screenshot taken from the film, even if it was or wasn't. - Sorry, minor personal crisis scuppered my plans to post logged in on Wednesday night.
- Interesting… Is there a reason you cite both those laws? The former says "10 years", which would make the date of 1957 irrelevant. The latter doesn't seem to be correctly linked in our template as it appears on the image's page, but, at least based on my reading of this, doesn't seem to have an "Article 2" unless that's a translation of 第二節, which is a revision of the Copyright Act's provisions in articles 6 through 9 and doesn't seem to relate to photographs or length of copyright protection. (I guess it might also be a translation of 第二章, which does cover the section dealing with the length of copyright protection along with many, many other points.) It seems that as of 1970 the length of copyright protection for photographs was defined by Article 55 as 50 years from the date of publication.
- The current text of the Copyright Act (articles 51 to 58) doesn't seem to distinguish between still photographs and other non-film works in defining the length of copyright protection as the author's life plus 70 years, or 70 years from the date of publication if the author is unknown. I haven't checked if the current law defines "photographs" or certain classes of photographs (such as those presented by the creators as still images from films) as "films", though. I also can't conveniently access the full text of the law as it was revised in June 2012, so I can't say what the law said when the file was originally uploaded, but the "famous" extension of copyright only dates to 2018, and two years before that it basically said 50 years where the current text says 70 in the case of non-films, but still said publication date plus 70 years for films.
- This implies to me (admittedly a very lay man) that the film, and presumably still images therefrom, entered the public domain in Japan in 2021, while, if the photo was a separate promotional image created to be clipped for magazine advertisements (somewhat implied in Chapter 11 of the book Envisioning The Tale of Genji: Media, Gender, and Cultural Production), its copyright date was and is dependent upon the date the photographer died or, if the photographer is unknown, then it entered the public domain in Japan in 2001.
- Does "1957" refer to the date 50 years before some significant date for Wikipedia Commons? If you don't know, I guess I'll take your word for it that the date of 1957 is relevant.
- Anyway, sorry if it looked like I was implying that your Commons upload indicated that the photo was a still from the film. I was referring to the English Wikipedia page on the film, which is probably the most prominent place where it is used. Many external websites take that information from English Wikipedia, and that's what brought me here: I was curious if you knew whether it was a still (well, a "scene") from the film. Since it seemed like you didn't know, I was going to go ask whoever added that claim to English Wikipedia, but when I checked just now, I found that this was you. I guess I could take this to your en.wiki talk page or ping you on the article's talk page, but since I have you here, would you mind clarifying whether this was a guess on your part or something you verified by watching the film itself?

- There's no need to get angry. I understand now that you don't know where you got the information that this was a still from the film. I guess I will have to assume you got the information from somewhere until my friend returns my DVD of the film and I can check for myself, after which point I will remove the claim from English Wikipedia if I find it to have been in error. It would have been nice had you been able to clear this up for me immediately so I could have pointed out to the institution that repeated this claim in a social media post before it becomes "too old", but I guess I can consider whether it's still worth doing so once I finally am able to check for myself. Sources for higher res images

- My latest tiger drawing thing was from Wikimedia itself. But yeah I should update when it’s not from the same as original source huh? Ok. - It's technically a "Creative Commons share alike" image which would mean you would need to license your article with the same Creative Commons license when using it technically. [edit]I am not arguing with you about the merits of AI as a medium on every DR I have made for an AI generated image. There are a lot of legitimate reasons to dislike AI and AI generated content.
